Why Choose Us
At Country Kids, we support children aged 5–15 with practical, age-appropriate mental health care while partnering closely with parents and guardians. Our approach empowers the whole family, helping children thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.
We believe every child is wonderfully unique. That’s why we prioritise taking the time to truly get to know each child — their personality, strengths, interests, challenges and the things that light them up. By understanding who they are as individuals, we tailor sessions to suit their specific needs, learning styles, and goals. Whether a child connects best through play, creative expression, conversation, or structured skill-building, we adapt our approach to ensure they feel safe, understood, and valued.
We work collaboratively with each child and their support system — including parents, carers, schools, and other professionals — to build capacity and practical skills that extend beyond the therapy room. Our focus is not just on addressing immediate concerns, but on strengthening lifelong coping strategies, resilience, and emotional awareness. By building strong foundations early, we support children to navigate challenges confidently throughout their development and into adolescence and adulthood.
Areas of support often include, but are not limited to:
- Self-esteem and confidence
- Anxiety and excessive worry
- Neurodiversity-affirming support (including ADHD and autism)
- Social skills and friendship challenges
- Assertive communication and boundary setting
- Emotional regulation and managing big feelings
- School-related stress and academic pressures
- Behavioural challenges
- Trauma and adverse experiences
- Family dynamics and conflict
- Loss and grief
- Bullying (in-person and online)
- Peer pressure and identity development
- Sleep difficulties
- Adjustment to change or transitions (e.g. starting school, moving schools)
- Building problem-solving and coping skills
Additional Parent & Family Support
We understand that parenting can be overwhelming, especially when your child is facing challenges. Feelings of stress, frustration, and helplessness are common, and it can be difficult to know how best to support your child while navigating school, social, and emotional pressures. We are here to work alongside you, providing practical guidance, reassurance, and strategies tailored to your family’s needs.
We also offer individual counselling for parents and guardians with our secondary in-house counsellor, available on weekends and evenings to ensure accessibility and to avoid any conflict of interest with sessions involving your child. By supporting parents and caregivers, we empower families as a whole, creating a foundation of confidence, understanding, and collaboration that helps children thrive.

Behind Youth Mindscapes:
The Heart & The Help
This age group is a pivotal time for developing emotional resilience, coping mechanisms, and a strong sense of self. Mental health support during this stage of life is crucial—not only for managing current struggles, but also for building long-term well-being through learnt coping strategies and preventing more serious mental health challenges down the track.
Unfortunately, many young people face pressures that can feel overwhelming, whether it’s navigating school or work expectations, managing relationships, or exploring their identity. Addressing these issues early on, with the right support, can help prevent further complications and set the foundation for a healthier and fulfilling future.
Drawing from Bonnie’s years of experience working with students in secondary education, Youth Mindscapes was created out of a deep passion for helping young people overcome adversity. Through this program, we aim to provide real, relatable mental health care that meets young people exactly where they’re at.
We offer flexible support that is both comfortable and approachable, with options for online sessions or clinic-based counselling, so young people can access the help they need in a way that suits their busy lives. Common areas of support we assist with are but not limited to:
Anxiety, Stress, and Overwhelm
Many young people face anxiety and stress from academic, work, and social pressures. At Youth Mindscapes, we support these feelings through a holistic approach encompassing aspects of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), tailored coping strategies, relaxation techniques, Self Compassion Therapy, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and building emotional resilience to help young people regain control and confidence.
Self-Harm and Suicidal Ideation
For those experiencing self-harm or suicidal thoughts, our counselling offers a safe, compassionate space to explore underlying emotions and circumstances. We draw on many focused psychological strategies, though most notably both ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) underpinnings are utilised to accept things for what they are, where they’re at and work alongside unconstructive presenting behaviours and thought. Through sessions, we focus on developing healthier coping mechanisms, and provide the support needed for healing and hope.
Low Mood, Motivation, and Confidence
Periods of low mood, lack of motivation, or self-doubt can be overwhelming. We work with young people to identify triggers, set achievable goals, and rebuild self-confidence, helping them reconnect with their sense of purpose and motivation. The foundations of these sessions are grounded in CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), mindfulness and relaxation strategies, psychoeducation and self-compassion therapy.
Identity, Belonging, and Self-Worth
Young adulthood is a time of self-discovery. Youth Mindscapes helps individuals explore their identity, build self-worth, and develop a positive sense of belonging. Our goal is to empower young people to embrace who they are with confidence and self-acceptance.
Relationship or Family Difficulties
Relationship struggles, whether with family or peers, can be emotionally taxing. We offer support in improving communication, setting boundaries, establishing self-advocacy skills and building healthier relationships to help young people navigate these challenges with greater ease.
Study, Work, and Life Transitions
Transitions from school to work or other major life changes can bring stress and uncertainty. We help young people navigate these changes with clarity by setting goals, improving time-management skills, and developing resilience to adapt to new challenges confidently.
Neurodivergence
For young people who are neurodivergent—such as those with ADHD, autism, or learning differences—we offer a space that is respectful, affirming, and adaptable. We take a strengths-based approach, often incorporating Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) and moving away from traditional "social skills training" models. Instead, we focus on self-advocacy, emotional understanding, and psychoeducation, helping young people better navigate the world in a way that works for them — not in spite of who they are, but because of who they are.
